In concept map assignments, you have to visually organize the key concepts related to a main topic and show connections between these concepts. You do this by identifying the main topic, brainstorming related ideas, linking concepts, and showing clear relationships between the ideas. The five steps involved in a concept map assignment are:
- Understanding the focus question:
It helps in brainstorming and mapping. - Brainstorm key concepts:
Create a list of important ideas, terms, and details related to the main question. - Organize and structure:
Begin by identifying the most central concept and arranging the related ideas in a hierarchical order, with the most important concepts placed above. Then, create the map. Next, link the concepts. Moreover, you can also write short phrases on the connecting lines to explain the relationship between the two concepts. - refine and revise:
Review your concept map to identify the missing links, add more details, or reorganize the structure for clarity. Some colors and different sizes can be used to highlight important concepts.
